For context, I’m still in Mexico.
I walked into my bedroom, looking for my water bottle. I knew I had left it next to my bed but it wasn’t there. I looked towards my suitcase and on the desk but it wasn’t there. I moved the bed sheets in case it was hiding on the floor next to them . . . but no. THEN in the next blink of my eyes, there it was. EXACTLY where I had JUST looked on the floor next to the bed.
“That’s SO weird!” It was that instantaneous. One moment, not there . . .the next . . . there. The first question for me is always . . “Am I crazy?” Blindness isn’t an option because I saw everything else. And everything else was in full view and in focus.
I walked out of the bedroom and noticed that the dog was sleeping in an entirely different spot than just moments before. Did he move without me hearing him? Maybe.
Those two things back to back put me on edge.
Later, I walked through the park with the dog. The same as every other day except it wasn’t. All the different planter beds had rearranged themselves. They were the same and different. Puzzle pieces of the same scene that dropped and landed in a different order but still fit together.
It was disconcerting. Like a low grade fever dream that doesn’t result in hallucinations but mixes up your sense of reality.
So what happened there? Did I jump dimensions? Was there a glitch in the matrix?
Let me know your thoughts because I’m stumped.
Salvador Dalí said, upon leaving Mexico, “I can't stand to be in a country that is more surrealist than my paintings.”
Maybe that’s it.
